Ridgeland-HES Coding Workshop 2014-boy at laptop3rd Grade Reading Assessment

The Literacy-Based Promotion Act requires 3rd graders to pass the 3rd Grade Reading Summative Assessment to demonstrate they are ready for 4th grade reading instruction. The assessment covers the Mississippi College- and Career-Ready Standards of reading for foundational skills, informational text, literature, and language.

This multiple-choice test is given online via a computer or tablet in a child’s school. A student scoring at the lowest achievement level in reading will be given two opportunities to retake the test.

If the score does not improve, the student will not be promoted to 4th grade, unless the student qualifies for one of the good cause exemptions specified by law.

For sample test questions please watch this informative video or view the Test Item Blueprint.
