First Grade

In first grade, children focus on the basic building blocks of reading. They learn the connection between letter patterns and sounds to read and write words. Children also learn how to read and write familiar sight words. Vocabulary is taught while being read to by adults and through various activities. First graders learn strategies to think about and gain meaning from what they read.  Help your child become a strong reader by developing strong reader habits and practicing the skills below.
